The Parable of the Spa (part 1)

Last week Jen and I enjoyed our brand new, 10 year old, spa for the first time. It has been a pain in the neck to get installed, and we were both very frustrated through the process that took about two weeks. As I was wallowing in pity and wondering why nothing ever seems to go as planned for us, I was struck by the different phases our little spa had gone through to get where it is right now.

We actually bought the spa over a year ago. It has sat on the slab we had made for it years ago when we landscaped our backyard. For over a year, all it did was sit there empty because it was not connected to any power. It was so frustrating to know that we had a spa, but that it was of no use to us when we were sore and aching.

I got to thinking that there are probably a lot of people, and churches, just like our spa. Everything looks good from a distance, but as we get closer, it’s obvious there is no connection to God as their source of power. There is a God-given purpose, but it goes unfulfilled because there is no power. There is a form of godliness, but no power. Instead of bringing hope, healing, grace, forgiveness, and comfort, they bring frustration to those that are sore and aching.

Let’s connect to, and depend on, God for anointing and power. The love of God in us will compel us, and the power of God in us will enable us. Without Him, we’re nothing. With Him all things are possible.

  1. What a great message. “Get Connected” your next entry should be on “Staying Connected”. Sometimes I find that very hard to do. Great piece by-the-way. Thanks for the post.

  2. that’s a great parable…now…when do I get to go in the spa?
